New York: Freedom Farm Community is seeking an Intern/volunteer Coordinator for the 2017 growing season. The Intern/volunteer Coordinator will facilitate and work with intern(s) doing organic farming, including preparing garden beds, planting, weeding, and harvesting produce to share with neighbors in need. S/he will also help create and adhere to a rotating prayer and cooking schedule for the summer farm team. The Intern/Volunteer Coordinator will welcome and orient volunteers and youth who visit the farm, many from urban backgrounds, teaching them how to help with needed farm projects. We welcome applicants who are called to serve others, integrating Christian faith and hospitality with sustainable-agriculture practices alongside people from diverse backgrounds. We require that you have a working knowledge of growing food that you can teach to others. Freedom Farm Community is entirely volunteer-run. The Intern/volunteer Coordinator will receive room, board, and a $400/mo stipend from June to August. The farm is a new market garden farm, growing vegetables and laying hens for a CSA and two Farmers Markets and cultivating community. The beautiful 40-acre farm is near the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Triangle and the position provides housing, a monthly stipend, and fresh food from the farm. We are looking for highly motivated & committed interns to assist in the daily & ever changing needs of our nonprofit garden project. The Lord’s Acre is a nonprofit donation, educational and community-building garden and our goal is to address hunger by seeking ways of building community around gardening and food. We are serious and hard-working, passionate about doing and improving our work, yet flexible and fun-loving and are looking for the same in our interns. In exchange for approximately 36 hours of weekly work growing and distributing food, we offer a private bunkhouse, a $300 / month stipend, a quality education, field trips, community outreach and immersion in a wonderful small community near Asheville.
